About Alicia

Greetings from Cleveland, Ohio!

Hello there! I’m Alicia. I’m a Cleveland-area mom, once-a-week blogger, linen-loving event professional, on-sabbatical yoga teacher & full-time #crazydoglady.

My blog (formerly Poise in Parma) started back in 2009 as a chronicle of my journey towards maintaining a 100 pound weight loss and a healthy balance while enjoying all that Cleveland has to offer. As time passes, it’s included a lot more than just that single theme.

Today, it celebrates all of Northeast Ohio and all of the things me and my family (including my husband, daughter and two Golden Retrievers) experience all around town. That usually includes anything from:
– cooking at home to eating out
– group fitness classes or getting active outside
– feeling confident as a parent to #ihavenoideawhatIamdoing
– teaching yoga or job loving on my full time job as an an event professional / marketer
– being a complete Type A+ to going with the flow (and being 100% okay with either)

In additional to blogging for my own site, I am a contributor to both the Playhouse Square’s Behind-the-Curtain blog and the Cleveland Plus’ Be The Plus Blog.

Want to know more about my local yoga classes, as well as specialty classes, private sessions and events. Learn more about my teaching schedule at my Yoga page.

Hi there! Just found this blog via Google alerts for Parma, which is how I stay in touch with news from my hometown. Loved the bit on your dog – so cute! But I am so impressed by your transformation. Wow! I’m in the midst of a lot of change and look forward to getting back to Weight Watchers to get back in shape. Need inspiration wherever I can get it! And I am also very enthusiastic about Cleveland too. I follow a lot of Cleveland orgs on Twitter and Facebook.

Hey! I found you through the Twitter chat this week. Do you follow Christie from Fit in the City? I think she’s from Ohio too. Where did you intern in upstate NY? I’m from Roc. Hope to hear from you!

Gorgeous golden retriever! I have a 6 year old female named Kala! The girl has seen the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything else in between. My most loyal friend. 🙂 Love your blog and look forward to following you on Twitter. Have a great day!

I just stumbled upon your blog and was really excited to see you’re from Parma! I moved to northeast Ohio about 2.5 years ago for work (I work at a small medical device company in Medina) and I have finally gotten comfy enough here to really start calling Cleveland home 🙂 Just wanted to shoot you a quick hello!!

  7. CLEgal says:

Discovered you via a fellow Cleveland blogger – Hungry in Cleveland. I grew up in Seven Hills, so I know all about Parma’s loveable quirkiness. Can’t wait to read more – we Cleveland bloggers have to stick together!

Hi there! I just found your blog via “So I Married a Chef”…..I’ve only read your “About” thus far, but was excited to see someone from PARMA blogging – Can’t wait to read more! Parma is my hometown! I left in 1996 for the San Francisco Bay area where I lived for 13 years and we just moved to TN in 2009, so I am closer to “home” now! My family still lives in the area, so I try to make it up to visit as much as I can……Just wanted to say hello.

PS: There is a quick way to get to Lakewood now! It is the “newer” highway connector off of 480 – I can’t remember the Route # – Maybe 96? 10-15 minutes quick. I actually lived in Lakewood “back in the day” and it was a pain in the butt to get to/from, LOL! =)

Hi Alicia – I came across your blog via a fellow Facebook friend (Chris E.) and *WOW* your story is very inspirational and truly motivating! ~*Congratulations*~ on all your hard work and perseverance! You look AMAZING & I’m glad to have stumbled upon your blog! During these hella cold ~dreary~ winter months I suffer from SAD (seasonal depression). Last winter, I gained 20 pounds but within the year I lost 24 pounds and have kept it off and my goal is to lose another 25-30 lbs and to get my health back on track. I’m so happy to see a fellow Clevelander on here (I live in a small surburb right next to Parma) & would love to find fellow work-out buddies within the area :)! My motivation has been lacking these past few weeks so any help/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Andrea at Can You Stay for Dinner? tweeted you and I love your site already. My extended family lives in Parma, my uncle is a firefighter there, so I was hooked by your title. Your weight loss story is incredible, great job! I look forward to reading more! 🙂

  11. Jon Howard says:

    Hey Alicia,
I think your website is awesome and I think the outcome of your weight loss is fantastic. I think that your drive and determination gives many hope that whatever a person puts their mind coupled with hard work and dedication, it can be achieved. I look forward to your tweets on Twitter! And from a fellow runner, “Run for Fun and Personal Bests!”

  12. MADMAJ says:

    Hi Alicia
I was so impressed by your transformation. I recently decided that 2012 is going to be MY YEAR, and even got a fortune cookie with the message ‘Decide what you want and go for it’. I taped it to my bulletin board and plan to use that as my confirmation that this indeed will be my year. My only concern is that I have a bad knee – arthritis – which is one of the reasons I want to lose this weight (I could stand to lose 150+ pounds). I am just wondering what you might suggest as a good alternative exercise to running. The only thing I can come up with is swimming, but I don’t know if that would give me enough on its own or if I would have to add some other elements.
Again, congratulations on your tremendous success!! You look amazing.
