CLE Lady Bloggers Meetup at The Southside

Once upon a time, when I had A LOT more free time on my hands, I coordinated dozens of blogger meetups around Cleveland. Dinners, tours, happy hours, round tables, holiday cookie swaps and more, it was a fun way to bring together my event planning skills, my love for blogging and my extroverted ways. But then, I started teaching yoga more regularly, found a new job with plenty of networking opportunities, got a second dog, and OH YEAH – had a baby. There went all that free time, ha!!! Coordinating blogger meetups was something I had to give up, though it pained me as I loved getting to know other local bloggers and social media users.

Jump to 2017 and my discovery of the wave of newer bloggers entering the Northeast Ohio scene. One of those “newer” bloggers is Leah at By Travel & Error, who has taken it upon herself to start bringing together bloggers again on the regular to get together, meet, mingle and have a casual chat about blogging related topics. While I missed the first meetup she planned, I made sure to make it to the second, which took place this past Saturday at The Southside in Tremont. I knew it would be a great spot for this type of gathering — I coordinated a blogger dinner there in 2012!

Alison at Alison’s Five Things assisted Leah the coordinating of our area on the indoor patio space at Southside. They planned for a spread of apps and two beverages for each of the attendees. PRO TIP: Eats and drinks are ALWAYS the key in getting bloggers to meetups!

If you’ve never had The Southside’s mac and cheese, drop what you are doing RIGHT NOW and get yourself to Tremont STAT.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with these lovely ladies that afternoon:

Standing in the back because 1) tall girl club and 2) SO not as cute as the gals among me!

So what did we chat about? Leah asked Alison and me to talk about our experience working with brands. While Alison is a newer blogger, she’s already had some great opportunities and experiences to share with the group. As for me — the “veteran” blogger of the group — I shared my top tips for working with blog partners:

  1. ALWAYS be authentic.
  2. confirm your deliverables then over-deliver.
  3. focus on accepting opportunities that align with your personal/blog brand.
  4. NEVER ask non-profits for cash payment (#YESpeopledothis).
  5. don’t be afraid to ask.
  6. know your worth.

Perhaps I should elaborate on these more in a future blog post?! LMK if you’d be interested!

LONG STORY SHORT: It was so refreshing to get back with a band of bloggers, all interested in what each had to say and all wanting to improve their blogging in various ways. The youthful excitement of these “chicks” gave this “old hen” quite the enthusiasm boost!! I’m looking forward to the next meetup — Leah is shooting for November, FYI. If you’re interested in joining us, join our Facebook group to get in on the discussion and to get those future meetups on your calendar!

Thank you for this write up, it felt like I was there to experience it all. I’m glad you were able to get back into the mix of a blogger meet up.

I am so disappointed I missed this due to jet lag but I hope to attend the next one in November.

I seriously loved this post! I found myself chuckling out loud at parts. It was such a pleasure meeting you and thank you so much for the shout out and kind words 🙂

I so wish I could’ve made it to this one – & hope the November one doesn’t overlap with my wedding, haha. Oh, well, I’ll make it eventually, & at least I made it to the first one, which was a great time. I’m so excited to see the Cleveland blogger community (re)unifying; it had slowed down by the time I got here, so this is all new to me & very reminiscent of my D.C. days. I love it!

And I would LOVE to read a blog post going further into your tips. I bet it would do well on She in the CLE, too!

Great post! I had a wonderful time at my very first blogger meetup. Everyone there was so welcoming, helpful, and “empowered & poised.” This post is spot on except for one line “2) SO not as cute as the gals among me!” Girl, you are gorgeous and super cute! I’m looking forward to attending many more blogger meetups in the future.
