the #HansenExpansion nursery — the before & after!

Hans and I moved into our house ten years ago this month. Since diving into home ownership was sort of a last minute, oh-we’re-getting-married-so-let’s-buy-a-house decision, we didn’t spent any time redecorating our new home before we moved in. We also didn’t make it much of a priority, taking our time to redesign our house room by room as inspiration (& necessity) hit us. So nearly a decade later we tackled the final room that remained untouched this entire time: Hans’ old teenage bedroom… or as I lovingly called it, an Ode to the ’95/’97 Cleveland Indians:

There’s no question this was a product of the 1990s. Forest green carpeting (which did mock a baseball outfield, when you think about it), two kinds of wallpaper including a border that was most likely super glued onto the walls, as much baseball paraphernalia that could be sold by the Jacobs’ Field team shop. It served two teenage boys perfectly, but wasn’t right for our little one’s arrival this month!

So how did Baby H’s nursery turn out? Photographer extraordinaire Dale McDonald captured the following photos as a part of our recent maternity session. When it came to my initial thought process on how I hoped the room to look, I knew I wanted to find a way incorporate just enough blush pinks in for our baby girl while embracing natural hues. I came across this watercolor Golden Retreiver print over on and I was off and running.

As I have a thing for both quatrefoils (she will be a Phi Mu legacy, after all!) and arrows (as inspired by yoga teacher Kathryn Budig’s Aim True philosophy), I was lucky to come across pieces that included those shapes while fitting our theme.  With the help of my mom’s incredible eye for design and serious manpower c/o my dad, his wife Tracey and Hans, our teenage boys’ room turned into a space fit for a dog-loving, adventure-bound princess. I couldn’t be happier about how it turned out, and am so ecstatic to share it with you today!
