Twenty-eight years ago today at 9:29PM, my mother – after 28 hours of labor – gave birth to yours truly at Parma Community General Hospital.
Well worth it for that cute little kid, huh?!
As my birthday marks the half way point of another calendar year almost gone, I can’t help to be reminded of that new year’s resolution I set way back in January: have I been practicing my 2011 mantra of “strive to blissfully thrive”? While I feel like I’ve been pretty successful so far, but for me it’s always fun to have a to-do list to keep me accountable for reaching those goals.
Perhaps because it’s summer and there seems to be an abundance of things I WANT to be doing, I felt inspired to create a bucket list for this year of my life. The list is all over the place – much like me – and includes some goals I have to work towards along with fun activities that I know will bring me joy. So in alphabetical order, I present:
My 28 at 28:
1. Attend another blog conference: sights are set on Foodbuzz in November
2. Celebrate Hans’ 30th birthday: personally hoping this comes in a form of a vacation…
3. Check out Whiskey Island: #confession – I’ve NEVER been!
4. Coordinate an Ohio Blogging Association field trip
5. Create a dinner with ingredients ONLY purchased at the West Side Market: I’ve done this before on several occasions, but it’s been awhile.
6. Eat a hamburger: Easier said than done for a gluten-free eater. must go to Mustard Seed for Udi’s hamburger buns STAT. I plan to bring said bun with me to B Spot Burgers. No I’m not kidding.
7. Finish my "Tour de Bruell" at Parallax
8. Go to a Cleveland Gladiators game: they look like a lot of fun!
9. Go to a MLB ballpark that is not Progressive Field: A life-long bucket list item of mine is to visit every since MLB stadium. I’ve been to CLE, Toronto, Wrigley and Fenway so far.
10. Golf: this might be in conjunction with number 2…
11. Grocery shop at a farmers market
12. Have a family holiday celebration at our home: note – I am NOT taking Christmas – Aunt Sharon’s already on the hook for that!
13. Hold crow pose for ten seconds: As of last week, I’m at a whopping one second.
14. Host the 2nd annual BYODDD (Bring Your Own Dog, Drink &/or Dish)
15. Make a gluten free baked good from scratch: Katie will be partaking in this activity
16. Karaoke at the Inn Between: get excited to head out to North Royalton!
17. Practice yoga with my dad
18. Rock out at a concert: already planned for August with WhyCLE
19. Run my second half marathon under 2:30: I haven’t done the math yet to know if this is even possible
20. Set a new 5K PR: …and hopefully get under 30 minutes by the time I turn 29. Current 5K PR is 33:46.
21. Surprise my brother: because he hates surprises as much as I do…
22. Swim in the ocean
23. Tackle the Destroyer with Hans at Honey Hut Ice Cream: that’s a whole lotta ice cream…
24. Tailgate before a Cleveland Browns game
25. Take a cooking class: most likely to take place at my new place of employment
26. Throw a dinner party for friends
27. Toboggan at the Metroparks: we haven’t been since high school!
28. Visit the Cleveland Botanical Gardens: another #confession that I haven’t been there either!
Looks like it’s going to be one fabulous year! I’m off to celebrate and knock a few of these off my list!

LOVE the list!
And it seems that you run the exactly same pace as me and have similar race goals and PR’s!
We need to run together…
Happy Birthday Alicia! The Botanical Gardens is great. You might like Wade Oval Wednesdays where the museums are open in the evening and they have music and vendors throughout Wade Oval. There’s also a Cool Globe exhibit about Climate Change spread out in the oval.
I was just thinking the other day that I need to make a bucket list of all of the items we want to pick this summer so I don’t lose track… currant and chesnuts and peaches oh my!
Happy Birthday! Our first time at the Botanical Gardens was for last year’s RIPE festival. It was in the fall (so the seasons were changing – beautiful time in Cleveland!), the weather was just warm enough to keep the gardens open AND it was all about gardening for food.
I hope they host that event again this year – if they do, you need to go!
Hope you’re enjoying California!
LOVE the lineup for 28 my dear, you will knock them ALL off that list, I have no doubt.
happy birthday!!!
You were soooo worth it…as was Drew. I hope your 28th birthday is full of much success and happiness! Enjoy and Live the life you deserve. Can’t wait to celebrate your birthday when you get back…please let me know what day is good! Love you baby! Mom

Happy birthday! This is a great list – you’ll be happy you made it.
The tobogganing is super fun – we do it with Colin at least once each year!
Happy Birthday Alicia!
Happy belated birthday to you! I turned 33 a week or so ago and made a long list of 33 running-related things. It’s a lot of fun to do! You have a great list here. Have fun marking these things off!
Happy (very) belated birthday! Same day my BF was born!
I am going to replicate this and make a 30 at 30 list for myself – September 12.
